Johannes Odenthal, born in 1956, studied art history and archaeology in Cologne, Bonn and Paris, founded the magazine tanz aktuell in 1986 and the magazine ballett international/tanz aktuell in 1993. From 1997 to 2006 he was artistic director for music, dance and theatre at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Since 2006 he has been responsible for the programme of the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. He is a curator of festivals and exhibitions as well as the author of numerous publications on contemporary dance and the international art scene.
