The circular architecture of some ancient Christian places of worship is not a meaningless architectural whim, but represents the expression of a liturgical conception aimed at liturgically harmonizing the “earthly” time, commensurate with the cycle of the Platonic year, with the time of the intermediate sky, the space-time of the Angels, where the human anthropological dimension is combined with the angelic one.
The Council of Constantinople in 869 separated the heavenly angels from their heaven and the triad body, soul, spirit was abolished in favor of the binomial body-soul or body-spirit, a mutation that was reflected in the temple architecture and in the liturgy. For this reason H. Corbin dramatically writes: "The circular plan has been destroyed; only semicircular structures remain, vestiges of the mutilated unity".
However, the Templar Gnosis , the Grail stories, Wagner's Parsifal and other testimonies demonstrate that the triadic anthropology has remained alive, and the reappropriation of the angelic dimension is the antidote against the tendency to identify solely with the material physical individuality.
