Come nasce una copertina di un ebook? Fontana Editore

How is an ebook cover created?

Rocco Fontana

Book and ebook covers are beautiful, colorful, captivating, and attract attention. Sometimes we become attached to them and their sight evokes memories of readings and important moments in our past lives. They are the first thing we see, and graphic designers and publishers have always tried to create the best dress for a book and its content.

As a graphic designer first, and then as a publisher, I always find myself between two fires when I am about to create a cover for my ebooks. Creativity and reason must find the right compromise and it is not always easy.

On the web, then, the first visual impact for a cover is in the thumbnails displayed in the various online stores. The illustrator who creates the cover has the space of a "stamp" to attract the reader's attention. You will understand, therefore, how difficult it is to find the right compromise between creativity and sales needs of an ebook.

For "Il diario di Bel", an ebook with a beautiful story of training and vampires, I decided to rely on the mastery of Moreno Chistè , a dear friend and very good illustrator from Trentino. He is an artist of international caliber who boasts important collaborations, first and foremost with Disney.

Moreno studied the directions and sample materials I had prepared. Through research and various tests, he defined the style of the illustrations and the character of the characters in the story.

The study of the protagonist was inspired by some photos of the author Gina Gushevilova, who is very beautiful, and physically similar to the character of Bel. We wanted to play on this peculiarity.

For the graphic style, Moreno was inspired by current trends that mix Japanese manga graphics with more composed Western-style features.

In my opinion, a perfect mix that lends itself well to being replicated in Bel's next stories, currently in preparation.

The result is a dynamic and captivating cover, perfect for the young and female target audience to which the ebook is aimed.

Gorgeous cover, gripping story, I just have to publish "Bel's Diary", all you have to do is read it.

Stay tuned.
