Zen Naikan. Dialogue with Rev. Leonardo Anfolsi
Zen naikan is an ancient alchemy, coming from the Rinzai school, which brings to those who practice it harmonious well-being, continuous joy, the firmest aid to healing and encourages the highest spiritual realization.
Leonardo Anfolsi is a Zen Buddhist minister of the Rinzai lineage recognized by the Italian State and the US Federal Government.
He was ordained as a monk in 1981 with the name Reiyō, designated as Meditation Master in 2001 and then as Dharma Master in 2013. He now continues his teaching in Italy and Europe, receiving the second name Ekai 恵海, Ocean of Generosity. It was trained by Master Engaku Taino under the aegis of Taishitsu Master Mumon Yamada, principal of Hanazono Imperial University, who ritually received Leonardo Anfolsi when he was a young monk.
Zen naikan is a gift that comes from Zen Buddhism of the Rinzai school , from monks and lay people dedicated to the realization of the strength of the spirit, mind, energy and body. While technological prostheses external to us are developed due to the materialist mentality, zen naikan encourages us to make of ourselves ardor, strength, source knowledge and freedom. The word naikan was used specifically by the Master Hakuin Ekaku, only three centuries ago, to define an ancient alchemy , a method of energy cultivation associated with a new concept of dynamic meditative practice and suitable for both lay people, who carry out an active life in society, than to practicing monks.
